Services > Therapy ServicesWhether you need occupational, physical or speech therapy, the CMH Therapy Services Department can meet your needs. The goal of the Therapy Services Department is to help each patient achieve their full functional potential. This goal is achieved by performing an initial evaluation that will help our staff develop goals and a treatment plan that is specific to each individual client. All three components of therapy, treat patients of all ages and with all levels of injury, illness, or disability. Our newly remodeled outpatient department is located on the corner of Monroe and Madison streets, in the Dr. Robert E. Cox Memorial Therapy Clinic. We also serve the acute hospital patients, swing bed patients, and the residents in CMH Long Term Care. CMH Therapy Services has a satellite clinic in Beardstown. Please call the main office at 217-322-4321, ext. 286 to schedule all appointments. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Physical TherapyIn Physical Therapy, often referred to as P. T., our emphasis is most often on restoring movement and function, or managing pain. The Physical Therapy staff has a wide variety of treatment options available, including electrical and thermal modalities, exercise equipment, manual and taping techniques, as well as therapeutic exercise. P. T. treatment plans generally include exercises that patients learn to perform at home. We also teach well being and exercise progression that patients may follow when they no longer need P.T. services.Occupational TherapyOccupational Therapy (O.T.) helps people perform normal daily tasks as safely and independently as possible. This may include self-care activities such as bathing, dressing, preparing meals, or performing work related activities. Our O.T. staff can teach patients to use specialized equipment that makes it easier to perform some of those tasks. Additionally, our O.T. staff can assess ergonomic set-ups in the workplace and treat dysfunctions and post-op conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow. Our O.T. staff has recently become certified in managing Lymphedema. Lymphedema is an abnormal buildup of fluid that causes swelling, most often in the arms or legs. The condition develops when lymph vessels or lymph nodes are missing, impaired, damaged, or removed. Please contact your physician if you feel you may benefit from this service. Speech TherapySpeech Therapy helps patients with a variety of communication and swallowing problems. A patient may have difficulty understanding what is said or may be unable to find the words they want to say. Problems may be related to weaknesses, or memory skills may interfere with communication. Swallowing and communication problems may be seen and treated in patients of all ages. |
