Friends of CMH Policy

  1. Applicants to the Friends of CMH volunteer program must submit an application for approval by the Friends of CMH Supervisory Panel.
  1. A probationary period is applicable to all volunteer staff as it is with paid staff. Each volunteer is accepted on a 90-day trail basis. Although the volunteer will remain on an at-will basis, close scrutiny will be given during the probationary 90 day period.
  1. A volunteer MUST attend the same annual inservice training which employees attend before they can begin their volunteer duties. The inservice is held on the 3rd Thursday of each month between January and October.
  1. A volunteer MUST attend an orientation meeting, either in a group or one-on-one setting. Orientation meetings will be scheduled as necessary to provide timely training. Orientation will include general information about dress codes, parking, policies and procedures of the hospital, and a tour of the hospital.
  1. Training and education are on going. Each volunteer is responsible for knowing and understanding the information in the handbook. Following the guidelines set by this book is expected from all volunteers.
  1. All volunteers are asked to report any injury or sudden illness directly to the Emergency Department nurse.
  1. Volunteers are responsible for recording their own volunteer hours in the log book.
  1. If for any reason, a volunteer is unable to work his/her assigned time, the volunteer should contact the volunteer coordinator. If that person is not available, contact the Director of Community Relations at 322-4321, ext 269.
  1. Problems, criticisms or complaints made about any volunteer service, any volunteer or concerning the hospital should be immediately referred to the Foundation Director.
  1. If a volunteer's behavior is found to be unsettling, disruptive or in any way a violation of hospital policy, the volunteer will be dismissed.
  1. Volunteers will follow CMH policies regarding fire, safety, ethics, confidentiality, smoking regulations, material safety data, prejudice, sexual harassment, substance abuse, and reporting incidents, bomb threats, and tornados.

Smoking Regulations

Culbertson Memorial Hospital is smoke-free. However, a designated smoking area is located on the ramp on the east side of the hospital. Anyone wishing to smoke must do so on the ramp.

Incident/Accident Report

If a volunteer is injured or becomes ill while on duty, the volunteer should contact the Emergency Department nurse immediately. If injured, an incident/accident report will be filed on the volunteer's behalf. If a volunteer is injured while on duty and medical assistance is needed, the volunteer will be sent to the CMH Emergency Department for evaluation.

Material Safety Data

Culbertson Memorial Hospital provides each of its staff members and volunteers with a safe and healthy work environment. CMH has implemented a Hazard Communication Program that is available to all paid and volunteer staff. Any substance known to be hazardous is included in this program. A Material Safety Data Sheet binder is retained in EACH department that states specifics for that particular department. A master copy of all MSDS sheets is located at the Medical/Surgical nurses' desk. If a volunteer comes in contact with any substance he/she is concerned about, contact the Emergency Department nurse.

Prejudice

Culbertson Memorial Hospital does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, national origin, physical or mental handicap, or gender except where there may be a bona fide requirement of a specific assignment.

Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is an unwelcome sexual advance of a verbal or physical nature. Conduct of this type will NOT be condoned. Volunteer staff who believes he/she is being harassed is encouraged to report to Foundation Director.

Substance Abuse

Each volunteer staff member has a responsibility to our patients to delivery services in a safe and conscientious manner. In order to ensure that this responsibility is met, volunteer staff members must be able to work free from the effects of alcohol and other performance impairing substances.

Dress Code

The public gains many of its impressions of CMH from its contact with employees and volunteer staff. Therefore, it is important that our volunteers not only be courteous and competent, but also that they contribute to the public image of the hospital through appropriate dress and appearance. Red volunteer jackets are part of the dress code and are paid for by the volunteer.
